Brow Lift

What is Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also known as browplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to rejuvenate the upper third of a face by elevating the eyebrows, smoothing forehead wrinkles, and reducing frown lines. It helps restore a more youthful, refreshed, and relaxed appearance — ideal for those who feel their low or heavy brows make them look tired, angry, or sad.

What a Brow Lift Can Improve

  • Sagging or drooping eyebrows.

  • Horizontal forehead lines and wrinkles.

  • Deep frown lines between the eyebrows (“11 lines”).

  • Hooding of the upper eyelids due to brow descent.

Types of Brow Lift Procedures

There are several modern techniques depending on your anatomy and aesthetic goals:

  • Endoscopic Brow Lift: Minimally invasive approach using small incisions hidden in the scalp. This technique offers a shorter recovery and minimal scarring.

  • Deep Temporal Brow Lift: Focuses on lifting the outer portion of the brows to open up the eye area.

  • Direct Brow Lift: Involves an incision above the brow, in its hairline, for more significant lifting — best suited for advanced ageing changes.

What to Expect

The procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia and typically takes 1–2 hours. It is usually done as a day-case procedure with no overnight stay required.
After surgery, mild swelling or bruising may occur, which subsides within 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to work within 10–14 days. Final results become visible once healing and swelling settle — typically
after a few months.

Recovery Tips

  • Keep your head elevated and avoid strenuous activity for 2 weeks.

  • Use cold compresses every 15-20 minutes to reduce bruising and bleeding.

  • Follow other aftercare instructions and, most importantly, attend follow-up appointments.

Results and Longevity

A brow lift offers long-lasting rejuvenation, typically 8–12 years. While it cannot stop natural ageing, it effectively softens existing lines and restores a refreshed, youthful look.

Possible Risks

As with any surgical procedure, potential risks include bleeding (hematoma), nerve damage (if deep temporal brow lift), swelling, temporary numbness, minor asymmetry, or visible scarring. These are rare and can be minimised by choosing an experienced plastic surgeon.

Combination Treatments

A brow lift is often combined with:

  • Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) for drooping eyelids.

  • Facelift or neck lift for full facial rejuvenation.

Brow Lift FAQs by Plastic Surgeon Žygimantas Mačys

01 | How can I be sure I’ll look natural at the end of my treatment?

Most patients want to look like an improved version of themselves, and that is always our goal. My experience in plastic surgery allow me to create results that enhance your natural features without looking overdone. I focus on subtle, harmonious rejuvenation rather than drastic changes. During your consultation, we discuss realistic outcomes to ensure you feel confident with the planned approach. Every treatment plan is tailored to maintain a natural-looking end result.

02 | Will people be able to tell if I’ve had a brow lift?

My goal is to enhance your natural appearance so you don’t need to worry about looking “operated on.” After a brow lift, most people simply notice that you look refreshed or well-rested. While bruising settles, you may prefer to see only close friends or family who already know you’ve had the procedure. Once healed, the results are subtle and discreet, blending naturally with your facial features. Many patients find that others simply comment on how well they look.

03 | How do I decide between a brow lift and an endoscopic facelift?

During your consultation, we will discuss your goals in detail so we can understand the improvements you want to achieve. Once we assess your facial features, we can determine whether a brow lift or an endoscopic facelift is more suitable. Each option targets different areas and concerns, so the choice depends on your anatomy and expectations. We will guide you through the benefits of each treatment so you can make an informed decision. My aim is to recommend the option that safely delivers the most natural and balanced result.

04 | How long will the swelling take to subside after my brow lift?

Swelling varies based on the technique used during your procedure. With an endoscopic brow lift, most swelling becomes minimal or unnoticeable within a couple of weeks. Open approaches may take a little longer to settle fully. Your recovery will be monitored closely to ensure everything is healing as expected. We will give you personalised advice on what to expect during each stage of recovery.

05 | My whole face is sagging with age, will a brow lift give me the results I’m looking for?

A brow lift can rejuvenate the upper part of your face, but its effects are limited to the brow area. If you are experiencing sagging throughout the entire face, additional treatments may be needed for full rejuvenation. Many patients combine a brow lift with other procedures such as, a facelift for better results. During your consultation, I will assess your concerns and recommend the most effective combination of treatments. Our goal is to create a balanced, natural, and age-appropriate improvement.
